[COVID-19] about COVID-19 (When you have COVID-19 / prevention of COVID-19)

Hi there,

Is everyone staying healthy?

In this session, we’re going to learn about COVID-19(Corona).

I’m sure you already know a lot about COVID-19 that has plagued us a lot over the past few years, but let’s rewind it again.

COVID-19

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a novel coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. It was first identified in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, Hubei province, China. The disease quickly spread globally, leading to a pandemic.

Please refer to the table below as the current status of COVID-19.

Then, what is the etymology of COVID-19?

COVID-19 is an abbreviation for Coronavirus Disease 2019.

“CO” stands for “corona,” which refers to the virus’s distinctive crown-like appearance resembling the solar corona.

“VI” represents “virus,” indicating the type of infectious agent.

“D” signifies “disease,” denoting the illness caused by the virus.

“19” represents the year 2019 when the disease was first transmitted to humans.

With this etymology, “COVID-19” was officially coined by the World Health Organization (WHO) on February 11, 2020, and has since become the globally recognized standard term for referring to this disease.

What is the infection route of COVID-19?

The transmission of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, occurs primarily through respiratory droplets. When an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or even breathes, they release these tiny droplets containing the virus into the air. People nearby can become infected by inhaling these contaminated droplets.

Additionally, the virus can spread by touching surfaces or objects that have the virus on them and then touching the face, particularly the mouth, nose, or eyes. This is why practicing good hand hygiene, such as washing hands frequently with soap and water or using hand sanitizer, is crucial to prevent infection.

How to prevent COVID-19 infection?

  1. Wear Masks: Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth, especially in crowded or indoor settings where physical distancing is challenging.
  2. Practice Physical Distancing: Maintain at least 6 feet (about 2 meters) of distance from others, especially in public places.
  3. Wash Hands: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in public spaces or touching surfaces.

  4. Use Hand Sanitizer: If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  5. Avoid Close Contact: Stay away from individuals who are sick, and avoid large gatherings or crowded places.
  6. Cover Coughs and Sneezes: Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of used tissues immediately.
  7. Clean and Disinfect: Regularly clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, light switches, and cell phones.
  8. Stay Home if Sick: If you feel unwell or experience symptoms like fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, stay home and seek medical advice.
  9. Follow Travel Guidelines: If traveling, check and follow the guidelines and recommendations of health authorities.
  10. Vaccination: Get vaccinated when eligible. COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be effective in preventing severe illness and reducing the spread of the virus.
  11. Monitor Your Health: Be aware of COVID-19 symptoms and monitor your health. Seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
  12. Stay Informed: Stay updated on the latest information and guidelines from reliable sources, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and your local health authorities.

What should you do if you are infected with COVID-19?

  1. Isolate Yourself: Stay at home and isolate yourself from others, including family members, as much as possible. Stay in a separate room and use a separate bathroom if available.
  2. Monitor Symptoms: Keep a close eye on your symptoms. Common symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath, and loss of taste or smell.
  3. Seek Medical Advice: Contact a healthcare provider for guidance. They can advise you on whether you need to get tested for COVID-19 and provide recommendations based on your symptoms and health condition.
  4. Get Tested: If advised by a healthcare provider, get tested for COVID-19. Testing helps confirm whether you have the virus and helps with contact tracing efforts.
  5. Follow Medical Advice: Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions, which may include taking medications, getting plenty of rest, and staying hydrated.
  6. Notify Close Contacts: Inform people you have been in close contact with recently so they can take precautions and monitor their health.
  7. Isolate Until Recovered: Stay isolated until you have fully recovered and received guidance from a healthcare provider that it’s safe to end isolation.
  8. Prevent Spread: Wear a mask if you need to be around others, practice good respiratory hygiene, and maintain proper hand hygiene to prevent spreading the virus to others.
  9. Stay Updated: Stay informed about the latest guidelines and recommendations from health authorities.
  10. Emergency Warning Signs: Seek medical attention immediately if you experience emergency warning signs such as trouble breathing, persistent chest pain, confusion, bluish lips or face, or other severe symptoms.

Remember, following medical advice, isolating yourself, and taking preventive measures can help protect both yourself and others from the spread of COVID-19.

Now, the era of chaos is somewhat out of the way, but I think new versions of COVID will continue to emerge in the future. Is there any other way? Let’s protect ourselves well by improving our immune system.

For our healthy life.
